We want to live in a fraternal community in deep union with God, following the example of Jesus Christ and want to serve the people around us. We gain our strength as we draw “from the springs of salvation” day by day. The original intention of our foundress Mother Alphonse Marie was that, through our presence and service, others might become aware of the following message:
"God loves me, he cares for me, he wants me to be happy, he wants my life to be enriched and fulfilled."
SISTERS OF THE DIVINE SAVIOUR.
It is registered as "society of the sisters of the Divine Saviour."
Regd.No.62 of 1995
19/1976
Living and acting out of the mystery of salvation. “It is necessary that the spirit of the Sisters of the Divine Saviour be the spirit of Jesus Christ. Their whole life ought to be tending towards identification with that of Christ the Saviour. His spirit ought totally to animate them, penetrate them in such a way that one finds Christ in every action or words of theirs.”
Congregation - Motto : With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation” Isa. 12.3"
The fountain health spa of Niederbronn in Alsace the village in which the Congregation was founded. However, it is a symbol of the true "spring" of salvation, which the sisters draw from. The spring of salvation is God himself, who particularly revealed himself in Jesus Christ. The green colour symbolizes hope and blue indicates the faithfulness of God, who in the logo as well as in our life all carries and surrounds us.
"De FontibusSalvatoris" – From the springs of salvation.
With joy we will draw water from the wells of salvation (Isaiah 12.3) and through all forms of action and presence; the Congregation wants to give expression to God’s never ending kindness and mercy.
Our foundress, Mother Alphonse Marie, was especially attracted in contemplating the life and passion of Jesus. This led her to a deeper understanding of God’s unconditional love for all human beings, especially for “the poor and the sick”. Her ardent desire was to intensify the direct relationship to God and to love him more and more. Out of that experience she wanted others to realize that God loved them. Following her example, we, as Sisters of the Divine Saviour, attempt to intensify our understanding of God’s love, which is particularly visible in the life, in the death and in the resurrection of Jesus. Through his infinite love, he gained redemption and salvation for us. We have to accept this gift again and again in our life in order to make others to experience salvation.
To implant the Congregation in India , Kannyakumari District, there were hectic preparation with Enthusiasm, lot of reflections and search. In 1964 Rev. Mother Marie Vianney was elected as the Superior General of the Congregation, she had the intention to send the Indian sisters to their own country to serve their own people. In 1966 Archbishop Mathew Kavukatt met Mother Marie Vianney in Oberbronn – France. In February 1968 Mother Marie Vianney and Fr. Stader with one Indian sister visited India and Particularly southern mission of Changanacherry diocese namely Kannyakumari District. In 1969 during the General chapter a decree was passed with regards the implantation of the Congregation in India. In the light of her visit to India, she saw that the people of this area were very poor in every side, such as health and hygiene, nutrition, education and social situation especially the situation of women.
After a good and intensive preparation in Europe, in June 1973 the first group of 11 Indian sisters reached India. After certain period of preparation, with great zeal and enthusiasm on 5th December 1973 Sisters of the Divine Saviour reached a village called Manjalumoodu in Kannyakumari District in Tamil Nadu state to start the mission among the poor. The Indian mission of the Congregation was entrusted to the first Indian delegation of 11 Indian and 2 European sisters.
